What is Communing with God?

A Behold King Jesus Devotional- Issue 1

To COMMUNE with someone is to share one's intimate thoughts or feelings with another person. Communing with Jesus is simply being with Him. Yes, it is true Jesus died on the cross for the remission of our sins and healing. However, contrary to what popular belief is, he did not die simply so we could

get to Heaven.

He died on the cross so we could have UNION with him. That is what He is longing for with each of us. He died so we could have a relationship with Him by walking and talking with Him daily. Romans 8:30 reads, "And having chosen them, He called them to come to Him. And having called them, He gave them right standing with Himself. And having given them right standing, He gave them His glory." As Paul states there in Romans, all we have to do is come to Him and He does the rest by giving us the glory of His presence.

This is why communing with Jesus daily is so essential, and the disciples, especially, knew this. After lesus' resurrection, He never publicly proved that He had risen from the dead. The general public knew that His body was gone, but many didn't believe He had risen from the dead. Instead, they believed someone had just simply stolen His body. Jesus had no need to prove Himself. After his resurrection, He never once appeared to the crowds that shouted, "Crucify Him!". He never appeared to the Roman soldiers that killed Him. He appeared to his disciples and others FOLLOWING Him. He appeared to those that communed with Him daily - those that talked and walked with Him.

Acts 10:40-41 states, “But God raised Him to life on the third day. Then God allowed Him to appear, not to the general public, but to us whom God had chosen in advance to be His witnesses. We were those who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.” This scripture plainly tells us that He encounters those that commune with Him. This means even the one they call “Doubting Thomas” He also appeared to too. He appeared to Peter who denied Him three times. WHY? Because they never stopped communing. They kept going back to Jesus every single time they messed up. They continued to come back to His feet, repent, and commune with Him. Eric Gilmour says it this way, “The public touch has got to turn into a private kiss—or it will all fade away. The reason He gives a public touch is to draw you to a private kiss.” If public encounters never turn to private encounters, that’s a life built on a weak foundation. It will not sustain you." Establishing the Secret Place is the foundation to living a life with Jesus. AND GUESS WHAT?

It is so simple to daily commune with the One that saved you- Jesus Christ. Matthew 6:6 states, “But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.” This is what Jesus told us to do in order to commune with Him. The Secret Place draws you deeper. It establishes you in the well that never runs dry- Jesus Himself. He longs to be with you, but do you want Him? Don't spend time with Him with the motive to get some reward, because He is the reward. This simple daily communion with Jesus is why He only appeared to those that had union with Him. It’s why He chose to encounter them, rather than those that didn’t. So I urge you today to go commune with Jesus daily. Taste and see that the Lord is good.
